The huge factor behind why this Arsenal loanee could leave the club in the summer

At a Glance:

  • Arsenal have already profited from a successful loan spell this season
  • Another loanee could fetch the Gunners a transfer fee in the summer
  • Has impressed against big clubs in his time away from the club

Arsenal is a team known for its impressive levels of squad depth, and sometimes that does mean having to let players go out on loan in order for them to showcase their ability.

This has seen success for the Gunners, with the club recently sanctioning the sale of Jakub Kiwior to Porto after a successful loan spell for around £19 million, and it can offer an opportunity for both youngsters and players struggling for minutes to show their ability away from the Emirates.

It is not always a success, though, with youngster Ethan Nwaneri failing to earn consistent game time in his current loan spell at Marseille, thanks to both form and work ethic issues.

But there is another Arsenal loanee quietly reinventing his career away from the Emirates, and his success could mean that the Gunners have a bit of extra cash to utilise this summer.

Fabio Vieira has been impressive for Hamburg in the Bundesliga this season

Fabio Vieira was a big-money signing for Arsenal in 2022, coming to North London from Porto for a fee just under £30 million.

The Portuguese midfielder ultimately failed to make a real impact in his two full seasons at the club, scoring three goals in 49 games with Arsenal and not looking as if he was the creative force fans expected him to be.

Vieira would go on loan back to Porto for the 2024/25 campaign, where he would score five goals and notch six assists upon returning to his home country.

For the 2025/26 season, Arsenal sent Vieira to Hamburg, who play in the Bundesliga, and the midfielder has become a crucial member of the squad in his short time there.

He has scored seven and assisted four over the course of the German club’s domestic league campaign, but most impressively is who he has scored the goals against.

Vieira has scored five of his league goals against teams in the top eight positions in the league, including first-placed Bayern Munich, third-placed Leipzig and fourth-placed Stuttgart.

If sold, Fabio Vieira could bring in decent money for Arsenal to spend in the summer

According to Transfermarkt, Fabio Vieira is worth £15.7 million, and if the Gunners can get anywhere near close to that value it would be useful for a potential big signing.

A player like Julian Alvarez coming to North London would require a few departures from the club, and it could be that Vieira is an important part of the cohort that will depart if a big signing is to join Arsenal.
