Mikel Arteta has cemented his status as an Arsenal legend after leading the club to their first Premier League title since 2004.

With Arsenal facing PSG in the Champions League final, the Spaniard has the opportunity to become the first manager in the club’s history to win Europe’s elite competition.

However, Emmanuel Petit suggested Mikel Arteta’s sacking if he went trophyless this season, which highlights how much pressure there was on the 44-year-old to deliver.

A revelation has emerged about whether the Gunners would have bid farewell to their manager had he failed to win the league again.

Arsenal would have kept Mikel Arteta even if they didn’t win the Premier League

Mikel Arteta will be offered a contract extension and even if he had failed to spearhead Arsenal to Premier League glory, journalist David Ornstein claimed he would not have been sacked by the club.

Ornstein told The Athletic: “I don’t think that was necessarily replicated internally in terms of, oh, if it doesn’t happen, Mikel Arteta is gone. They back him wholeheartedly and we’ve seen that in the past and we’ll continue to see that now.

“It wouldn’t surprise you if he signs a new contract and continues into the future.”

How much Mikel Arteta could earn after signing new contract

Arsenal fans will be delighted about the prospect of Mikel Arteta extending his contract at the Emirates Stadium beyond 2027.

According to Amazon Prime Video Sport UK, the former Everton midfielder is the youngest manager (44 years and 54 days) since Jose Mourinho (42 years and 94 days) to win the Premier League.

Arteta could earn £15 million-a-year if he signs a contract extension as Arsenal have intended to offer him a significant pay rise.

The sum includes Champions League qualification and it seems likely that he will put pen to paper.
