5 greatest title-winning Arsenal teams of all time – ranked

Arsenal managed to fend off Manchester City for the 2025/26 Premier League title, for their first league trophy in 22 years and their 14th league title overall.

It is the Gunners’ first PL victory in the post-Arsene Wenger era, and while Mikel Arteta’s defensive emphasis on the way his team plays has been a topic of discussion, he ultimately managed to get Arsenal over the line in the Spanish coach’s seventh year at the club.

While coming first in the league has not been as regular an occurrence for the North London club as it perhaps should have been in recent times, many Arsenal teams of years gone by have established themselves as some of the greatest teams that football fans have ever seen.

With that said, here are the five greatest Premier League-winning teams that Arsenal have ever had, ranked.

5. 1930/31 – When Herbert Chapman put Arsenal on the map

It is perhaps slightly strange to put Arsenal’s first-ever league title in the top five best title-winning teams the club has produced ever, given that they only won the league by seven points, but this was the season where Arsenal announced themselves to football fans.

Herbert Chapman, perhaps the greatest ever Arsenal coach behind Arsene Wenger, had been at the club for five years at that point, but rallied a squad that included star man Jack Lambert, who scored 37 league goals on his team’s way to the league title, as well as other Arsenal icons like Eddie Hapgood and David Jack.

4. 2025/26* – Mikel Arteta’s first title… and maybe Arsenal’s first European title?

What often sets a team apart upon winning the league is if they have any other trophies to pair with it, and if (hence the asterisk) Mikel Arteta can will his Arsenal team to a Champions League trophy on top of their PL title, this season’s team will etch itself in history.

Perhaps it is unfair to exclude one of the late, great 1990s squads of Arsene Wenger in favour of this hypothetical, given that this Arsenal team can only reach a maximum of 85 points. But a truly elite defense, as well as a prolific season from Viktor Gyokeres, means that, paired with a Champions League victory, this team could become an iconic one.

3. 1970/71 – Arsenal’s first league and FA Cup double

Managed by Bertie Mee, the Arsenal of the 1970s is still etched in the memories of many older fans of the team.

It was a season in which Arsenal won the title at arch-rivals Tottenham’s stadium, White Hart Lane, getting a crucial three points that saw them fight off Leeds United by only a single point, before winning the FA Cup against Liverpool only a matter of time later.

2. 1990/91 – George Graham and Arsenal’s elite defence

George Graham’s Arsenal were never particularly glamorous, but they were feared within English football. They lost just a single league game all season, with a backline that consisted of Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, and Steve Bould.

1. 2003/04 – The Invincibles

Arsene Wenger’s crowning moment, this title-winning team not only went through the entire domestic league season without a loss, but extended that unbeaten streak to 49 games over all competitions.

Featuring modern Arsenal icons like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira—and, to be honest, every member of the Invincibles is iconic in some way—there is almost no doubt that this particular squad is the best Arsenal team to have won a title of all time.

matchday.
