Arsenal have completed the signing of Spain goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez on a free transfer following her departure from Real Madrid. The 27-year-old arrives with major domestic and international experience as Renée Slegers continues an ambitious summer rebuild.
Rodríguez spent six years with Real Madrid and became club captain in 2025. She also won the Zamora Trophy twice after recording the lowest goals-per-game ratio in the Spanish top flight.
The goalkeeper described Arsenal as one of the world’s leading clubs and outlined her desire to compete for trophies. Rodríguez also wants to help the Gunners create more history alongside their supporters.
Her arrival follows an extensive recruitment drive across the women’s squad. Arsenal have already completed five major outfield additions, including Georgia Stanway, Selina Cerci, Ona Batlle, Géraldine Reuteler and Lisa Baum.

Rodríguez will compete with Daphne van Domselaar, Anneke Borbe and Isabella Damm for minutes next season. Slegers believes the Spain international’s technical quality, communication and presence will improve Arsenal’s goalkeeping unit.
The new signing developed with CD Femarguín before joining Atlético Madrid in 2017. She later established herself at Deportivo La Coruña and helped the club finish fourth during its first season back in Spain’s top division.
The Guardian reports that Rodríguez has now left Real Madrid after six seasons. Her experience at the highest level should provide strong competition for Van Domselaar, who held the starting position last term.
Arsenal finished four points behind Women’s Super League champions Manchester City last season. Slegers has since strengthened almost every area of her squad as the Gunners prepare another title challenge.
Rodríguez becomes another proven international addition and offers leadership from the back. Arsenal’s competition for places has increased significantly before the new campaign.
