  • The end of the season is close for Arsenal, with the Gunners still in a hunt for two trophies
  • Fabrizio Romano reveals big news over the future of Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are only two games from lifting the Premier League title if all goes to plan, and manager Mikel Arteta will have finally taken his team to the pinnacle of the sport after six long seasons.

With the Gunners also set to face off against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, Arsenal fans have much to look forward to in what may end up being their first double-winning season this century.

In what has been a dominant season for the North London club, who have won 42 games in all competitions at the time of writing, out of a total of 60 games played. This includes 24 victories in the Premier League, in a campaign that, so far, has seen them fend off Manchester City in the race for the 2025/26 league title.

While Arsenal will be hoping to make headlines in the summer, more huge news could be coming the way of Arsenal, according to Fabrizio Romano, about the future of manager Mikel Arteta.

Mikel Arteta contract discussions will take place in the summer, says Fabrizio Romano

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Arsenal are planning on holding talks over a new contract with Mikel Arteta at some point after the season ends.

“[A contract extension for Arteta is] a topic for after the end of the season. Now the full focus is on the Premier League title and the Champions League.

“After that, any moment could be good for Arsenal and Arteta to continue their conversations and try to close the agreement over a new deal.”

Arteta is currently under contract until the end of the 2026/27 season, with the Spaniard having been at the helm of Arsenal since taking over from Unai Emery in 2019.

While it is unknown what the specific length of the contract will be, Arteta’s tenure at the club has already made him somewhat of an icon at the Emirates, regardless of how long he stays, with an FA Cup victory and four second-placed finishes in a row in the Premier League showing how competitive Arsenal have been under him.

Mikel Arteta deserves a new contract with the club

While Mikel Arteta is now a well-loved figure at Arsenal, it feels like the relationship has been through rocky times where fans have been unsure about whether the Basque coach is right for the club.

Arsenal have been criticised for playing negative football under Arteta, with an emphasis too heavy on rigid defending and intricate build-up play instead of a free-flowing attack.

Ultimately, though, this has brought the club closer to winning the Premier League than they ever have been in the past 22 years, and Arteta deserves to stay in North London regardless of whether he can bring home trophies at the end of the year.
