Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday night after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth mathematically confirmed that Pep Guardiola’s side could no longer catch the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s squad has been on a strong run of form to finish the end of the year, not only being crowned winners during that spell but also making their way to a Champions League final, where they will face off against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish manager has stated exactly what he was doing at home when Arsenal won the league in a humorous and ultimately sweet revelation.

Mikel Arteta was told by one of his sons that ‘we are champions, Daddy’

Speaking in a press conference, Mikel Arteta spoke to the media about the moment he knew his team had finally completed the title dream that he had waited six years for.

“It’s one of the best feelings I’ve ever had. I went home, I went outside, I started to do some BBQ. I couldn’t watch it (the match). I could hear noises from inside, then my son opened the door and ran towards me. He was crying, and he said ‘we are champions Daddy’,” Arteta said.

This marks the Basque coach’s third trophy since joining the North London club, following an FA Cup win in his first season with Arsenal in 2020, and a Community Shield win three years later against manchester City.

Arsenal have won 25 games out of a total 37 in this season’s premier League campaign, picking up 82 points at time of writing with one gameweek left—where Arsenal will play Crystal Palace away.

Social media reactions show how loved Mikel Arteta is right now

The reaction on Twitter to Arteta’s statement highlight how beloved the 44-year-old is by fans both local and worldwide, with one account mentioning “What an amazing feeling and moment to share it with your son. That is better than anything else, I bet, for Mikel.”

Another highlighted the funny fact that he was cooking when the Gunners’ Premier League victory news arrived, stating that it was “such a Spanish thing to do. BBQ is the answer to everything.”

A final commenter focused on the emotional aspect of the situation for fans, saying “dammit man, I was going to try to not get all teary eyed today!!!!”

matchday.
